THE UODA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2010 ASABA RETREAT

NOTICE OF YOUR APPOINTMENT INTO
THE UODA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.
In acknowledgement of the enormous challenges faced by the administration of the present UODA NEC, and the honest desire to serve the Ubulu-Okiti people, the UODA NEC executive resolved to appoint distinguished indigenes of the Association into the UODA National Executive Committee, with a bid to fortifying it in order to meet the urgent needs of our people.

Most critical of the present needs of our people are the two abandoned roads that lead into the town and also traverse the entire community (i.e. the Ugba and Ogbese Roads). It will be recalled that at the last Annual General Meeting of the Association held on the 26th of December 2009, the general house unanimously endorsed the appointment of a ‘Courtesy Call Committee’, with a mandate to carry out a courtesy visit on the Delta State Governor. The purpose of the said courtesy call to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the executive Governor of Delta State, is to raise the issues of the abandoned projects in Ubulu-Okiti, including the aforementioned two major roads.

Regrettably, all efforts to secure a date for the said proposed courtesy visit proved abortive. The letter of intent to pay the Governor the said courtesy visit remained untreated till date, and several visits to the governor’s office for enquiry on the issue was also unproductive as the governor was either reported to be abroad or out of the state on official duty.

At present, the two said roads are completely destroyed by erosion and are inaccessible by any means. Very deep gullies now exist at the center of the roads and motorists have no access into town and quarters connected to these roads. Visitors to the town are either compelled to take the Issele-Uku or Otulu roads. The roads in issue are in terrible shape, urgent intervention by this association is needed now to arrest the erosion and restore the roads to their former state.

The UODA in consultation with renowned indigenous engineers have designed a project for the immediate restoration of the roads to ensure that the two roads are in good state during the dry season, particularly during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The proposed measures will ensure that our roads are never allowed to degenerate to this horrible state ever again and also guarantee minimal lost or damages should the contractor return to site. The proposed measures will make adequate provision for specially adapted culverts for all major streets and roads connected to the two roads under focus.

The persons appointed into this committee are therefore invited to a crucial retreat on the 31st of August 2010 at Orchid Hotel, Asaba by 10 am, to take a broader look at the proposed measures, suggest further necessary actions, proffer means of achieving the set goals and assist the elected UODA NEC members to mobilize resources both individually and through their branches to guarantee the success of the road rehabilitation.

The UODA NEC after careful and dispassionate consideration of all the options available to the Association and the town, resolved that the above solution is the painful part we must take to save our community from total ruin.

Needless to mention that Ubulu-Okiti has never benefited much from government in terms of development, all we have today are essentially through communal efforts and most often through selfless sacrifice from our sons and daughters whose names and contributions this UODA administration shall put in gold in due time.

This invitation is a call to service and sacrifice for our beloved town which the founding fathers built with their strength and sweat. It is an invitation to the members of the committee to take a place amongst the heroes of our community and save Ubulu-Okiti.

This committee is constituted by elected members of the UODA NEC, all presidents of UODA branches and the below appointed dignitaries .
